Christina (British/Belgium) and Nico (Dutch) welcome you to their home.
Chez Providence is a traditional medieval village house, in the heart of a conservation area, retaining charm and character. Built of local slate, stone and timber, it was part of the 12th century village ramparts. It has wooden beams, exposed stone and limed walls, a tiled hall and polished wooden floors. We started our renovations in 2005. It is now a beautiful, substantial, comfortable home, and bed & breakfast with a self-catering studio.
Cuxac-Cabardès is a picturesque, tranquil rural medieval mountain village, which grew up around the church of 'Sainte Cecile sur la Dure' in the 9thcentury. Its tower has a unique lookout ‘keep’ which still survives today; it is now classified as an ancient monument... During the medieval period Cuxac had an important heavily fortified chateau, and the village endured many battles during the Cather Wars due to its central position between the towns of Carcassonne and Albi, and the chateaux of Lastours and Saissac important Cather centres. The village is in a valley surrounded by unspoilt countryside, at a height of 500 metres in la Montagne Noire. You will find quaint winding lanes with pretty stone houses, shady squares and abundant allotments; there is a large village green a children’s playground and a Petange pitch all beside the tree lined river 'Dure'.
Our B&B is just below the village square in the centre of the village. The house is deceptively spacious with light comfortable rooms. On the ground floor there is an entrance hall, a cloakroom and a guest lounge/dining room; this leads to a sun terrace with table and chairs with a panoramic view over our garden, the valley of the river 'Dure' and the wooded hillside beyond. A wooden staircase leads from the hall to a landing with a library, a kitchenette and 4 beautiful guest bedrooms on the 1st and 2nd floors. On the lower ground floor, we have a studio apartment available as B&B or for self-catering. We also have a sheltered peaceful sunny garden with flowers, herbs, shrubs and trees; sun loungers, tables and chairs under the shade of a grape arbour… with a BBQ and sink. |

Our calm sunny garden
Our garden gets the sun all day long it is just behind the house. As the village is built on mountain rock the gardens are mostly on the outskirts of the
village and rarely attached to the houses, ours is accessed by walking around the block; turn left or right down a quiet lane, both will get you there,
where you will find sun loungers and under the shade of the grape arbour, tables, chairs, a sink and BBQ.

The little village of Cuxac-Cabardes is surrounded by unspoilt nature, it leaves nothing to be desired:
a grocery, a bakery, a butcher, a restaurant and a hotel / restaurant a doctor and a pharmacy. On Monday evenings, an excellent pizzeria truck parks by the river and riday mornings a fish van can be found on the village square. Next to our garden is large village green with a Pétange pitch and football field beside a tree lined walk along the river bank. Parking is free in the village square and is less than 1 minute away or just beyond the church a 4 minute walk. We have secure garaging for touring motorcyclists (up to 4) and cyclists who are always welcome.
